Today, 5 March, is DID awareness day (Dissociative Identity Disorder).
DID is one of the most complex mental health conditions which impacts on people, and it is the result of developmental early childhood trauma.
We know from research that around 1.5-2% of the general population lives with DID. In the UK, this equates to around 1 million people, or roughly the population of Birmingham.
CDS UK has been working with patients with DID and other complex dissociative disorders for over 25 years to enable people to heal, grow and thrive.
Generally more people are aware of DID than before, but it continues to be a condition of hiddenness and shame which is greatly misunderstood.
We want to take a moment to note this day, to help others to be more aware of the condition.
